Dr. Holly Anderson’s formal training is in the area of pharmacy. She attained a Bachelor’s of Science degree from University of Georgia and went on to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Dr. Anderson began her pharmacy career in Florida as a community pharmacist in 1981. She later transitioned to a position that focused on patient care in long-term care facilities and was a Consultant Pharmacist. The next transition involved working for the newly opened West Palm Beach Veterans Administration Medical Center as a clinical pharmacist in 1995. It was during this time that Dr. Anderson returned to school to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy degree. After completing her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1999, Dr. Anderson accepted an administrative/faculty position at Nova Southeastern University’s satellite campus in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This campus communicated lectures over compressed video to pharmacy students in Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach Gardens and Ponce, Puerto Rico. This distance education program offered students lectures in a synchronous format.
Dr. Anderson’s administrative role at Nova Southeastern University was as the Director of Experiential Education with a faculty appointment to the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Anderson has extensive experience in teaching physical assessment skills to Doctor of Pharmacy candidates. She traveled to various cities in the United States and Puerto Rico teaching these skills. In 2007, Dr. Anderson was the faculty member that traveled with 50 pharmacy students for an intensive, focused learning course in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China. The course included classroom lectures and off sight visits to hospitals and pharmacies in Beijing. To further understand the role of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the country, there were many cultural exploration trips to historical locations in the area.
During her time at Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Anderson presented many lectures for continuing education credit in the area of Medication Error and Prevention and Physical Assessment.
In 2013, Dr. Holly Anderson began her role at Walden University School of Nursing as a contributing faculty member in the Masters of Nursing program teaching Advanced Pharmacology to future Nurse Practitioners. The Advanced Pharmacology course is a fast paced 11 week course that combines patient assessments skills with the pharmacological principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics to select the correct medication, dose, and frequency for medically complex virtual patients. With the creation of a virtual patient, students are able to learn about the challenges facing future Nurse Practitioners for patients treated in clinics, hospitals and long term care facilities.
Areas of interest for Dr. Anderson include medication error prevention and non-pharmacological interventions to improve patient health. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and holds a certificate to teach Basic Safety Series with emphasis on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillators to community responders.
