In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Elizabeth Gatch Mutz, DNP, AGACNP-BC, is an adjunct faculty member specializing in acute care education. With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2013) and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (2017), she brings over 13 years of clinical experience.
At Walden she serves as adjunct faculty, teaching advanced acute care topics to graduate nursing students. Her primary research interests and subject-matter expertise center on neuro critical care, cardiovascular/thoracic transplant critical care and and neuro-oncology. She also has expertise in quality improvement, clinical trial participation and multidisciplinary engagement.
Professionally, Dr. Mutz is an APRN licensed in Florida and board certified as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP. She currently practices in neuro-oncology at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville (since July 2024) and previously served as a critical care APRN (2017–2024). She holds an Instructor of Medicine appointment at Mayo Clinic (2022), participated in multidisciplinary quality and VAE workgroups, and served as a sub-investigator on numerous Phase I–III neuro-oncology clinical trials.
