In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Elizabeth "Miki" Anderson has 16 years of teaching experience, five of which have been focused on graduate courses. Her counseling experience consists of private practices, university counseling centers, domestic abuse agencies, and community mental health centers. Dr. Anderson has appeared on podcasts such as KinderMind and Pineapple Talk, has led webinars on self-care and wellness, and has presented her doctoral research at the 2022 Popular Culture Association Conference and the 2023 Association for Adult Development & Aging (AADA) Conference.
Dr. Anderson has been with Walden University since January 2025. She has facilitated core courses and field experience in the Master's program and serves on dissertation research committees for the PhD program, focusing on content and methodology.
