In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Ekaete "Eka" Oyeka, DNP, PMHNP-BC
Ekaete "Eka" Oyeka is a highly accomplished Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a distinguished career in nursing, education, and mental health care. She began her nursing journey with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Tyler Junior College in 2008, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2011. Committed to advancing her education and expertise, Ekaete earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Walden University in 2019 and recently completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Touro University Nevada in 2024.
Ekaete has made significant contributions to the field of nursing education. She joined Walden University as contributing faculty in May 2022, where she shares her extensive knowledge and clinical experience with the next generation of nurses. Prior to this role, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Wilkes University beginning in 2021, where she taught advanced practice courses in psychiatric mental health nursing (NSG-535 and NSG-536). Ekaete is also deeply committed to mentoring, serving as a preceptor for PMHNP students in her private practice, where she provides invaluable guidance in their clinical training.
Her clinical experience is both broad and diverse, spanning medical-surgical, acute care, orthopedic/surgical/trauma, surgical oncology, pediatric home care, home health, and mental health nursing. This extensive background allows Ekaete to offer a comprehensive approach to patient care, addressing the complex needs of individuals across various healthcare settings.
Ekaete is a respected member of several professional organizations. She is affiliated with the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) and is a member of the Phi Nu Chapter at Walden University. Additionally, she holds memberships in the American Nurses Association (ANA), the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP), and Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses of Texas (PAPN).
