In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Donna J. Petko received her DNP from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2017. Prior to completing her doctorate, she received her post-master’s in nursing education in 2014 and her MSN in family nurse practitioner in 2013 from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. Dr. Petko completed her BSN in 2009 at West Suburban College of Nursing in Oak Park, Illinois. She is board certified in family practice by the ANCC and is a certified nurse educator through the NLN. Dr. Petko is currently employed as a family nurse practitioner in the immediate care and house calls practice settings. She has over 25 years of health care experience in clinical practice, health care administration, and teaching. Dr. Petko has worked as a staff nurse, case manager, program manager, director, administrator, primary care provider, health and wellness coach, and professor. She is a licensed RN and APRN in multiple states across the country. Dr. Petko teaches at multiple universities and serves as a contributing faculty member in the MSN NP program at Walden University. Her professional affiliations include Sigma Theta Tau International, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, among others.
