In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Deanna Hunt is a doctorally prepared Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and nurse educator with more than a decade of combined clinical and academic experience in nursing and advanced practice. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Mount Carmel College of Nursing, a Master of Science in Pharmacology from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Science in Nursing as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from The Ohio State University. Dr. Hunt has over ten years of professional experience in both clinical practice and nursing education. At Walden University, Dr. Hunt serves as adjunct faculty in the graduate nursing program, where she teaches core courses including evidence-based practice.
Her primary areas of research and scholarly interest include women’s health, reproductive endocrinology, pharmacology, evidence-based practice, and advanced practice nursing education. Dr. Hunt has particular expertise in women’s health across the lifespan, including menopause care, fertility treatment, and gynecologic oncology.
Clinically, Dr. Hunt currently practices as a nurse practitioner in a menopause and midlife clinic, providing comprehensive care focused on symptom management, hormone therapy, preventive care, and patient education. She also provides telehealth services and has prior experience in infertility care and gynecologic oncology, where she managed chemotherapy-related care, survivorship, and complex women’s health conditions. Earlier in her career, she worked as a registered nurse in neonatal intensive care and medical-surgical settings.
Dr. Hunt is actively involved in professional service and community engagement, including volunteer practice as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at a free clinic serving underserved populations. She holds board certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and maintains multiple state APRN licenses.
Her scholarly contributions include multiple textbook chapters on laboratory screening, infectious disease testing, and genetic testing, as well as peer-reviewed publications in nursing practice. Among her notable accomplishments are recognition as a Top Performing Provider at The Ohio State University and service as a reviewer for evidence-based practice portfolios through the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare.
Overall, Dr. Hunt’s work integrates clinical expertise, pharmacologic knowledge, and evidence-based practice to advance graduate nursing education and improve care for women across the lifespan.
