In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Clara Kenny, EdD, BCBA, LBA is a distinguished educator and behavior analyst with over a decade of experience in applied behavior analysis and special education. She earned her Doctor of Education with a specialization in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education from Johns Hopkins University, along with her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University, with a concentration in teaching students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.
Dr. Kenny brings extensive teaching experience to her role, with her formal field of study encompassing applied behavior analysis, special education, and instructional design for adult professional learning across multiple delivery formats including in-person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous formats.
With over 10 years of professional experience in behavioral consulting and education, Dr. Kenny currently serves as Director of Behavior Backup in the District of Columbia Metro Area, where she leads behavioral consulting services for aftercare, in-home, and school district settings. Her primary research interests focus on functional behavior assessment, challenging behavior intervention, and the application of text message interventions to promote information retention among caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders in low socioeconomic areas, which formed the basis of her doctoral dissertation.
Dr. Kenny's professional background includes serving as a Communication and Education Supports Specialist for District of Columbia Public Schools, where she provided Applied Behavior Analysis curriculum support and professional development training. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Behavior Analyst in Maryland, with expertise in instructional design, behavioral consultation, and BACB supervision for certification candidates. She has presented her work at prominent conferences including CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) and NCSC (National Charter Schools Conference).
