In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Brian Sutton is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), an Approved Clinical Supervision (ACS), Certified EMDR Therapist (EMDRPT-I), Certified Solution-Focused Brief Therapist (SFT-PT), and Certified Neuropsychotherapist (NPT-C). He co-owns a private practice, For Us Therapeutics, which serves minority communities, addressing trauma, anxiety, and stress-related mental health issues. His research interest center around complex trauma, racial trauma, and brain-based approach to therapy. Dr. Sutton’s approach integrates neurocounseling with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), focusing on mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. He also supervises other clinicians at his practice, guiding them in providing high-quality care. As a counselor educator and a contributing faculty member at Walden University, Dr. Sutton has been teaching psychology and counseling courses since 2017, passionately educating the next generation of mental health professionals. With over ten years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. B is deeply committed to helping his community. He has given numerous community speaking engagements on the importance of mental health, men’s mental health, and mental health within the African American community. Dr. Sutton is also a United States military veteran, having served over a decade in the United States Army.
