In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Scanlon has a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. She has over 20 years of experience in the counseling field both as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and as a Certified School Counselor. She has worked in high schools, community counseling agencies, a college counseling center, and in her own private practice. In addition, Dr. Scanlon is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). She is a Past President of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association (PCA) and Past Chair of the North Atlantic Region (NAR) of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
Dr. Scanlon’s areas of research interest include supervision of counselors in training, professional counseling advocacy, and professional counselor wellness. She has presented on these topics at regional and national conferences.
