In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Amelia D. Davis is an accomplished educator and nursing professional with over 18 years of experience in the nursing field and more than 14 years dedicated to nursing education. She has made significant contributions to the field through leadership roles and innovative initiatives, consistently advancing the quality of nursing education and healthcare.
Dr. Davis earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) from Alcorn State University, followed by a PhD in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University. Her career spans various influential positions, including Dean of Nursing and Interim Director of the School of Nursing at several prestigious institutions. As a Coordinator of Simulation and Clinical Learning, Dr. Davis played a pivotal role in enhancing nursing education through the development and implementation of innovative simulation strategies.
She has also contributed to the field by leading accreditation processes and grant-funded initiatives, such as the Title III Grant at Alcorn State University, which developed a simulated teaching hospital to enrich the learning environment. Dr. Davis’ leadership in securing a $3.25 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) provided scholarships to nursing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A respected member of professional organizations such as Sigma Theta Tau and The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, Dr. Davis has been a key contributor to developing future nursing leaders. She has presented at numerous national and local conferences on nursing education and simulation, furthering her commitment to advancing the profession.
