Amber Hughes earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in August of 2013. She earned her Master’s degree in Human Development Counseling with a concentration in School Counseling from Vanderbilt University in May of 2006. Dr. Hughes is a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Indiana and a National Certified Counselor. Dr. Hughes began as a contributing faculty member in the School of Counseling at Walden in 2025. She currently teaches the Career Counseling class. She has worked as a counselor educator for 12 years. Professionally, Dr. Hughes has worked as a school counselor, an academic advisor, a career counselor, and more recently a clinical mental health counselor. She has several presentations and publications related to career development and career needs of diverse populations.
