In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Brown is a board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a background in interventional psychiatry. She received her BSc in Biology and BSN from The College of New Rochelle and earned a DNP degree from Fairfield University. Her work in nursing education, research and clinical practice focuses on raising awareness about societal issues surrounding mental illness and comprehensive mental health treatment services.
Dr. Brown has several years of experience teaching mental health nursing and mentoring students to achieve academic success. She has a passion for developing nurse champions who will improve health outcomes and advance health equity. As a faculty member at Walden University, Dr. Brown teaches and mentors MSN students in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program. Her role includes delivering coursework that integrates psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and evidence-based psychiatric care across the lifespan. She supports students in developing advanced clinical reasoning, diagnostic skills, and a strong therapeutic presence. Additionally, Dr. Brown contributes to curriculum development and fosters professional growth to prepare graduates for autonomous and collaborative practice in diverse mental health care settings.
Dr. Brown is a subject matter expert in organizing access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment services while supporting the integration of primary care services. Her research interests focus on reducing mental health stigma, enhancing evidence-based approaches in mental health nursing education curricula, and exploring the nursing role in interventional psychiatry. Dr. Brown maintains a private practice that provides access to mental health care for adults 18 years of age and older. Specialty care for adults with co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities is an essential feature of her practice. Dr. Brown's contributions to the nursing profession have been reflected in scholarly works published in academic journals.
