Support at Strategic Points in Your Journey

Academic residencies give you the opportunity to connect and collaborate with faculty members and hundreds of your peers. Required for doctoral students and some master’s students, residencies are designed to enhance your learning at key points in your academic development. Face-to-face residencies are held in locations throughout the United States and abroad, while virtual residencies are hosted online for eligible PhD and EdD Advanced students.*

Walden students often find their residency very beneficial and speak highly of their experiences:

“My first residency was in Minneapolis in 2010, and I was very nervous about attending. I wasn’t sure what to expect or how the residency would benefit my program. I am extremely glad I gave the residency experience a chance. Not only did I learn about research skills and APA formatting, but I also developed professional relationships with other scholars in my field.”

Additional benefits include:

  • Establishing a network of professionals who support and practice scholarly endeavors.
  • Cultivating and refining skills essential to your profession.
  • Meeting with faculty and staff members who can assist you with your academic and career planning, writing, and research projects.
  • Discussing experiences and insights with students from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds who share your interests.
  • Preparing you for participation in professional communities of scholars.
  • Finding additional support for researching and writing your dissertation or doctoral study.
  • Conceptualizing and developing doctoral research that contributes to positive social change.
