Dr. Dickson currently serves a core faculty member in Walden’s Master of Science (MSN) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program. He is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with over 25 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. His current practice and research interest include working with persons diagnosed with a severe mental illness, and co-occurring substance use disorders, along with using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy in the treatment of addiction in client with complex trauma.

He has an active practice working in a local residential substance use disorder treatment facility. He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) and American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Dickson obtained his DNP from Walden University’s first gradating DNP class in 2014, and his scholarly project implemented a pain assessment program in community dwelling older adults with moderate to severe cognitive impairment using a quality improvement approach.
