Degree Program Doctor of Education (EdD)

I started my education career in 1997 as a Program Coordinator for the Center for Experiential Education and Service Learning at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). My role was to direct a tutoring internship program to enhance achievement in local underprivileged elementary schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District. I love to travel and moved to Barcelona, Spain in 2000 and taught English. When I returned to the United States, I found myself back as a Program Coordinator for the UCLA Community Based Learning Program. I worked with at-risk youth, ages 14-21, in conjunction with community partners to provide tutoring services, develop curriculum, and teach workshops focused on life skills, career development and academic advancement. I had the opportunity to work in the start-up sector as the Education and Training Director for NTI – Notification Technologies Inc. I was in charge of handling the deployment, integration, management, and renewal of the communication interface for over two hundred school districts and schools in over 18 states. This provided me the opportunity to travel throughout the U.S. and train adult learners. I really enjoyed this job, but I decided to go back to school to earn my EdD in Educational Leadership at UCLA. This when my journey at Laureate Education and Walden University began. In 2005 I worked as Team Lead for the Course Management and Student Support Team. This was my first experience within online and distant education and I worked directly with students and faculty to help troubleshoot and support them with access to the classroom, technology questions, billing issues, course material requests and more. I worked as a Product Manager for Walden University helping to launch one of the first online teacher preparation programs and launch new doctoral programs for the Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership. Upon graduation from UCLA with my EdD, I worked as the Coordinator for Academic Initiatives for the Riley College. I worked with the Dean to provide support during the initial accreditation process for NCATE. Finally, in 2013 I moved into the role of Program Director helping to oversee our higher education and adult learning doctoral programs. I have enjoyed working to support students to achieve academic and program success while providing training and mentorship to the faculty of our institution. My experience with Laureate Education and Walden University has allowed me to understand the specific needs and how best to support students and faculty in an online environment.
