Dr. Sonja Sutherland began her tenure at Walden in 2021 as Core Faculty for the School of Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia, a Board Certified Telemental Health Counselor (BC-TMH), and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). She earned her PhD (Counselor Education and Supervision) from Regent University, Masters of Science (Professional Counseling) from Georgia State University, and Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from New York University.

Prior to beginning her tenure at Walden, Dr. Sutherland was an Associate Professor of Counseling at Richmont Graduate University’s School of Counseling, where she also served as the Inaugural Director of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, and the Dean of Assessment, Planning & Accreditation, overseeing strategic planning, and program and institutional accreditation. Prior to this, at varying points during her time there, Dr. Sutherland also served as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Director of Institutional Effectiveness, liaison to both the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
