In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Sherie Hawkins has served as a Professor of Graduate level Clinical Mental Health Counseling for 14 years and as a Psychotherapist for 25 years. Dr. Hawkins specializes in trauma healing and is passionate about working with clients utilizing EMDR as a primary treatment modality. She also had a vision early in her career for serving clients using varied healing modalities that treat the mind, the body, and the spirit, and therefore has built a team of professionals who are licensed counselors, hypnotherapists, life coaches, massage therapists, naturopathic practitioners, and wellness professionals who practice in traditional settings as well as within nature. Dr. Hawkins has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia, she is a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor, a Certified EMDR Practitioner, a Certified Forest Therapy Guide, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. Her clinical practice was named the Georgia affiliate for the National Complex Trauma Consortium in 2022, and Dr. Hawkins offers continuing education opportunities related to Complex Trauma. She is a mom to two amazing young men, and she enjoys spending her personal time with friends and family. She can often be found with them embracing nature and sharing love through laughter, food, and deep spontaneous conversations around a fire.
