In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Shawn Parquet is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of experience in clinical psychiatry and nursing education. She brings a unique combination of advanced clinical expertise and academic leadership, with a strong commitment to improving behavioral health outcomes and preparing the next generation of nurses.
In her current role, Dr. Parquet provides strategic and clinical leadership in the delivery of comprehensive psychiatric care. She oversees complex patient cases, guides treatment planning across multidisciplinary teams, and plays a key role in crisis intervention and stabilization efforts. Her leadership ensures the integration of best practices in psychopharmacology, patient safety, and quality care delivery across diverse populations.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Parquet has held faculty appointments at Kennesaw State University and Emory University, where she taught psychiatric-mental health nursing and supervised undergraduate nursing students in a variety of clinical settings. She is recognized for her student-centered teaching approach, curriculum development, and dedication to mentoring future nursing professionals.
She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from Brandman University, a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Georgia, and a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Argosy University. Her doctoral research focused on the effects of music therapy on adolescents with depression, highlighting her interest in innovative and integrative approaches to mental health care.
Through her combined roles as clinician, educator, and mentor, Dr. Parquet remains dedicated to advancing mental health care, promoting evidence-based practice, and shaping the future of nursing education.
