Ph.D. Public Policy and Administration

Dr. DeParis serves as executive director of a small consulting firm named the Center for Police Leadership. Our work involves public safety agency consulting related to organizational assessment, strategic planning, change management, organizational development, and leadership development.

Consulting is a second career. Prior to entering the field full-time, Dr. DeParis served with the San Diego Police Department for twenty years, where he retired as a command officer about 15 years ago. He followed a career path that took him to field operations, investigations, and administration. For the last decade of his career, Dr. DeParis served as a commanding officer in divisions within those major functional areas.

As to teaching, DeParis either is or has been a member of the graduate faculties at a number of private and public universities. He has taught at the university level for 23 years and at Walden for about 12 years. Dr. DeParis divides his teaching time between courses (research methods, organizational leadership and management) and dissertation mentoring. He has published 20 articles, monographs, and workbooks; presented at numerous management conferences; developed six leadership development programs; and conducted more than 50 leadership development seminars.

Dr. DeParis holds a Doctorate in Public Administration with Specialization in Organizational Leadership and Management from the University of La Verne, as well as Master's Degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration.
