Patrick Palmieri

Dr. Patrick A. Palmieri is a global health leader, nurse scholar, and health sciences researcher with 20+ years experience in academia. Currently, he is a contributing faculty at the Walden University School of Nursing. In addition, he is the Director of the EBHC South America: A Joanna Briggs Institute Affiliated Group, and Co-Director of the Centro de Investigación Cualitativa del Peru. Furthermore, Dr. Palmieri serves as a board member for the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), member of board of directors risk and audit committee (representing the American Nurses Association) for the International Council of Nursing, and faculty associate with the Watson Caring Science Institute. He is the immediate past chairman of the board of directors for the Sigma Foundation for Nursing.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Palmieri served in various clinical and management roles in ambulatory and acute care settings, including critical care and flight nurse, clinical manager and administrative director, and chief nursing officer. In addition, Dr. Palmieri served as a vice-president of the healthcare division of a large multinational insurance company based in Peru. In this role, Dr. Palmieri co-led a team to develop the largest vertically integrated health care delivery system in Peru. When Dr. Palmieri transitioned to the Chief Quality and Safety Officer for the new health system, he led the first health facility accreditation in Peruvian history.

Dr. Palmieri is qualified at the highest level as a researcher in Peru (RENACYT #P0022630) by the National Committee for Science, Technology, and Innovation (CONCYTEC). He completed a two year postdoctoral program under the supervision of the renown nursing theorist Dr. Jean Watson. The result of this program was multiple publications and the co-edited book 'Global Advances in Human Caring Literacy' (Springer Publishing). Dr. Palmieri has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and presented scholarly work in 40+ countries.

Dr. Palmieri has served on more than 30 successful doctoral project and dissertation committees. Furthermore, he has helped students present their research at international conferences and publish manuscripts in Scopus indexed scientific journals. In addition to receiving numerous awards from professional organizations and government agencies, Dr. Palmieri received an honorary doctoral degree from the Universidad Maria Auxiliadora for exemplary scholarship in nursing and philanthropic work with vulnerable populations. He was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2015 for his significant scholarly contributions to advancing positive social change through his health policy and educational work in nursing.
