Degree Program Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Dr. Lavelle's background is pretty diverse but there is one common theme that runs through his professional and academic career; Dr. Lavelle is a professional manager who teaches. His personal mission statement is: "To teach in the boardroom or the classroom". In other words, a teacher is who he is, not what he does.
Dr. Lavelle's first job out of college was as a restaurant manager, a career enjoyed despite the need to 70 hours per week. Next, Dr. lavelle spent 20 years in wholesale building material distribution, serving in many roles including sales and operations management, purchasing and ultimately as president and general manager. He left the company to return to school to earn a masters and PhD.
During that time, he became involved with a Plastic Injection Molding company in the Minneapolis area where he served as VP Operations for 7 years. The owner of that business, Dr. Lavelle's wife, was recently inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame. Most recently he served as the business school associate dean for a Minneapolis based university before returning to his passion....teaching.

Dr. Lavelle's volunteer contributions to social change include 6 years as a foster parent and board member of the state foster parent association, 7 years as chair of the city’s planning and zoning commission, 8 years as the chair for the board of education of a public K-12 school district among other activities.

Dr. Lavelle's educational background is; Bachelor of Science - Management from North Dakota State University, Masters in Management - University of Mary and PhD in Organization and Management - Capella University.
