Metoka L. Welch, PhD, LCMHC (North Carolina) is the Associate Dean II for the School of Counseling. Dr. Welch has been a counselor educator and licensed clinical mental health counselor for over a decade. Dr. Welch is an Honors Graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Master’s in Community Counseling from Wake Forest University and her Doctorate in Counseling and Counselor Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

As a former Assistant Dean, Department Chair, and Program Director, Dr. Welch has worked in diverse clinical and academic settings. In addition, Dr. Welch provides mental health counseling to couples and individual clients. Whether as a clinician, a faculty person, or an administrator, Dr. Welch’s passion is building relationships. Her leadership style is RAASLE – Respect, Accountability, Advocacy, Servant Leadership, and Empathy. She has spent her administrative career leading departments across the helping professions and been instrumental in obtaining and maintaining programmatic accreditation.

Dr. Welch is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the Association for Creativity in Counseling, the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International.
