Melissa Lozito

Dr. Melissa Lozito’s formal training is in mental, behavioral, and medical health care where she has served various roles throughout her career of 16+ years. Dr. Lozito served as a mentor and trainer to social workers in the field related to ethics, advocacy, social justice, leadership, client-centered care, professionalism, and more. Dr. Lozito started teaching at Walden University in 2020 as a Contributing Faculty for the Bachelor Social Work (BSW) program in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Lozito received her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree at Walden University in 2018 with her focus on clinical expertise. While in her DSW program and after completion of her DSW degree, Dr. Lozito provided peer support and mentorship to fellow colleagues throughout their thesis writing process. Dr. Lozito’s current research interest focus primarily on self-care practices and quality of social work services. She has presented her thesis findings to several agencies locally. Dr. Lozito is known in the social work field locally as a strong advocate for people and ability to be creative in solution-focused approaches that impact communities for positive social change. Dr. Lozito was awarded the Faculty Excellence Award by her students for her hard work and dedication to the social work field. She includes the importance of self-care practices when working with others in various capacities. She published her thesis "Self-Care Practices of Geriatric Social Workers" in 2018.
