In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Melissa Renee Dyer is a finance scholar and educator with more than 18 years of experience in higher education and business instruction. Her formal field of study is finance, and she holds a Doctor of Business Administration with a concentration in finance. She has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including business finance, investments, financial management, international finance, and financial literacy, across in-person, online, and hybrid learning environments.
Her primary research interests focus on financial strategies for long-term success in small businesses, particularly those owned by women, as well as broader topics in financial literacy and finance education. Her scholarly work emphasizes practical applications of financial theory to improve business outcomes and individual financial decision-making.
Dr. Dyer’s professional background includes extensive experience in academic leadership, program management, and curriculum development. She has held roles such as graduate program director, department chair, and faculty member in business and finance disciplines. In these roles, she has led curriculum enhancements, conducted program assessments, supervised faculty, and supported student success initiatives. She has also contributed to course design and development, creating engaging and accessible learning materials to improve student outcomes.
Among her major accomplishments, Dr. Dyer has earned tenure, led academic departments and graduate programs, and implemented improvements to business curricula to better align with industry expectations. She has developed innovative instructional tools, including interactive financial simulations and multimedia course content, to enhance student engagement and comprehension. In addition, she has published research in peer-reviewed academic journals and presented her work at professional conferences, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in finance and business education.
Through her teaching, research, and leadership, Dr. Dyer remains committed to advancing finance education and supporting the academic and professional success of her students.
