Mary A. Helming earned a PhD in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences with a Specialization in Nursing Science and Spirituality from Union Institute & University, Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2007. She received a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Yale University in 1980, in the Family Nurse Practitioner/ Community Health Track. She is a new Contributing Faculty in the School of Nursing at Walden University in the MSN FNP Program. Dr. Helming has worked as a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner APRN since 1980, with clinical experiences in family practice, internal medicine, occupational and student health, and urgent care. Dr. Helming has been in academia for 20 years, teaching in the graduate nurse practitioner tracks and pre-licensure nursing at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. She retired as Professor Emerita from Quinnipiac University in 2018, and recently worked as Adjunct Faculty at several universities. In addition to having published numerous journal articles and book chapters, she is a Contributing Editor for Journal of Christian Nursing and a Co-Editor for Holistic Nursing: A Handbook for Practice. Dr. Helming is a board-certified Advanced Holistic Nurse and a Board member of the Advanced Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation. Her research interests include spirituality in nursing and integrative health.
