Dr. Taylor would like to share a bit about herself and her background. She taught in K-12 education for 15 years before moving into public school administration. After teaching she became an elementary school principal, director of instruction, and finally a high school principal during this 18 year period. She then transferred to higher education as an administrator, student teacher supervisor, and adjunct faculty instructor. She has been teaching for the past 15 years in two departments: Organization & Leadership (O & L) and K-12 teacher certification (in California). She has been with Walden University in the MSL program for the past nine years. She is also an instructor in the WMBA program.

Dr. Taylor received her Ed.D. in Organization & Leadership at the University of San Francisco and found this to be one of the most rewarding journeys she has ever experienced. She received the “Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award” when graduating in December 2009. In July 2016, Dr. Taylor received Walden University’s “Faculty Excellence Award” for the College of Management and Technology at the National Faculty Meeting/Commencement in National Harbor, Maryland.

She loves to travel, read, and conduct research on emotional intelligence, the importance of K-12 music education, and the nature of confidence building as well as learning about other places and cultures. She acquired her ability to communicate in Spanish while living in Venezuela, South America for six years in her 20s and 30s.

Creating positive social change is something Dr. Taylor truly believes in. Not only in organizations and communities, but within ourselves as well. Interpersonal and intrapersonal leadership development are very important to her and she devotes a great deal of time to encouraging her students to do the same.

She is very involved in local community activities that support school age students in the area of performing arts. She has been instrumental and successful in encouraging school districts in her area to reinstate 4th and 5th grade instrumental music lessons as part of her commitment to Walden's mission and vision for creating positive social change. Additionally, she has supported many homeless individuals in her local community who are seeking to improve their own lives.
