Marie Bakari
Dr. Bakari has worked in higher education for more than 10 years, and has been a business owner for more than 16 years. She’s taught traditional on-ground classes, hybrid, and online courses. She has authored book chapters on public health and virtual organization topics, developed open education resources, presented at conferences, and conducted rigorous research in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Dr. Bakari has chaired over 60 dissertation students to completion. Her love for mentoring and helping students develop their research skills is where she finds her passion. Dr. Bakari is skilled in qualitative and quantitative methodologies and enjoys working on various research topics.
Dr. Bakari’s educational journey began at the University of Texas, where she was trained as a dental hygienist. Later, she pursued a bachelor’s in business administration, an MBA in management, a master’s in accounting, a DBA in multicultural entrepreneurship, and an EdD in higher education leadership. Her research interests include cultural competence in higher education, DEI studies, and women’s perspectives of power. She is a small business owner who offers tax preparation and advising services to her local Virginia community. Dr. Bakari also serves on the Society of Friends of African American History board, an organization devoted to preserving the history of Blacks in the Williamsburg, Virginia area.
