Dr. Katrina L. Dowell is a Social Work instructor with over 6 years of teaching at a local University. Dr. Dowell holds a Doctor of Social Work degree with an emphasis in Public Service Leadership from Capella University. Dr. Dowell's role at Walden University will be a Contributing Faculty member. Dr. Dowell will teach Cultural Diversity. Dr.Dowell has extensive experience in Cultural Diversity as she became a Certified Cultural Diversity Trainer in 2008. In this capacity, Dr. Dowell trained professionals who worked in outpatient mental health centers to enhance competency skills among diverse populations. Dr. Dowell works full -time as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for the United States Department of Veteran Affairs as a clinical therapist and is certified a Cognitive Processing Therapy for patients living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is an evidence-based treatment modality. Dr. Dowell has over 19 years of experience in the field of social work in working with individuals, families, and couples. Dr. Dowell's primary areas of research interest are in Health Disparities among African American Populations and Self-management skills. Dr. Dowell has a history of various professional affiliations such as being selected by the Association of Social Work Board (ASWB) in 2009 to develop the 2010 Licensed Clinical Social Work exam; Master Trainer for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program; Facilitator for the Freedom from Smoking Program, and completion of 16 hour training for Licensure Supervision. Dr.Dowell's major work accomplishment consists of co-writing a federal grant for a local health department, which resulted in the agency receiving a half-million-dollar funding award currently and since 2015.
