Dr. Kathleen Schoenecker is welcomed as a new contributing faculty member joining the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work and Human Services in the College of Social and Behavioral Science. She earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Indiana University, an MSEd. in Educational Psychology from the University of Dayton, an MSW from Our Lady of the Lake University (San Antonio, Texas), and a BS in Psychology from the University of Maryland (Heidelberg, Germany). Dr. Schoenecker holds active licenses to practice both School Psychology and Social Work in Indiana. Dr. Schoenecker has over 30 years experience in a variety of professional roles including international adoptions and full psychological assessments for students with suspected learning disabilities in the school system. She has over 10 years of online teaching experience serving students at the community college level, the bachelor level, and the master level programs of study in both social and behavioral science and higher education programs of study. In addition to face-to-face and online teaching, she has been involved in course development and mentoring; most recently designing and facilitating an online statewide Research Methods course for undergraduate students. As a military veteran (USAF), Dr. Schoenecker has experienced life as an active duty military member, as a military spouse, and was raised in a military family with multiple assignments worldwide. She points out that the early training and experience in aircraft navigation and communication systems provided inspiration to further explore navigation and communication in humans and inspired her future direction for continued exploration and discovery. Her research interests include the determinants of life satisfaction and the complex domains of testing and measurement. In addition to teaching, Dr. Schoenecker sponsors a private residential retreat for individuals who need time and a plan before moving on in life, works directly with individuals to overcome barriers to learning, provides opportunities for skill development in her fully functional wood working shop with both online sales and a residential store front, and is involved with community volunteer activities when called to do so.
