Dr. Karen Roberson Lewis joined Walden University in the spring of 2019 as a contributing faculty member. Her educational and professional experiences are well grounded in the field of social work. Dr. Roberson Lewis earned the Master of Social Work degree from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Ph.D. in social work from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.
She has many years of direct practice experience which includes working with families, children, elderly and vulnerable populations for over 12 years with the Alabama Department of Human Resources and other social service agencies. Dr. Roberson Lewis also brings several years of supervisory and administrative experience with state government. She retired from the state of Alabama (Alabama State University) in December 2016 with 25 years of combined state service.
Dr. Roberson has served as the Director of Field Education for both BSW and MSW programs and brings over 14 years of teaching experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has many years of experience working with children and families in the child welfare system. Dr. Roberson Lewis has conducted extensive research on the effects of Domestic violence on African American women in rural communities in Alabama.
