In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Joseline Castaños, Ph.D., is the dean of The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Human Sciences, and serves as Dean of Academic Success for the for The Division of Social Supports for Healthy Communities. Dr. Castaños is a visionary leader and educator with over 20 years of experience who began her professional life as a K-12 educator, and strives to provide access to quality higher education for all, especially underrepresented communities. She is a lifelong learner who is constantly developing herself. Her degrees include bachelor’s in secondary education and romance languages, master’s degrees in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Human Resource Management, and Human Services specializing in mental health, and a Ph.D. in Educational Technology. At Laureate International Universities, she led an international English Program in over 30 institutions worldwide. Later, she developed a framework/system to recruit, support, and retain faculty worldwide as the Laureate Center for Global Faculty Excellence Executive Director. She also led Walden University product development efforts for the College of Management and Technology and the Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership.
More recently, she served as Associate Dean and Director at Western Governors University in the management and leadership vertical in the School of Business, overseeing undergraduate and graduate programs. Outside of work, her passions include family, running, and advocacy. She is passionately active with NAMI, AFSP, MHFA, and the MBHAC to break mental health stigma and support those in need.
