Ph.D. Nursing

Dr. Mallow is a Contributing Faculty as Walden in the PhD of Nursing Program. The focus of her research is the development and use of technology to improve access and outcomes for rural and underserved individuals. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has provided care, promoted health, and managed disease for uninsured patients since 2002. Through this work, she led interdisciplinary teams to achieve successful and measurable outcomes. As a postdoctoral investigator, she received the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute Scholar award and is an alumnus of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars. Through this funding, she developed an empirically evidenced, HIPAA compliant, web-based, system of mHealth sensors and mobile devices called mI SMART. The system allows patients living in rural areas to receive primary care for multiple chronic conditions and perform self-monitoring, receive feedback in real time, and attend visits from their home. The mI SMART platform has been shown to be feasible, acceptable, and efficacious in rural populations. In her 22 years in academics, she has taught at the undergraduate, Master’s, Clinical Doctorate, and PhD programs. Her current teaching includes Uses of Data and multiple levels of Informatics. She has built teaching expertise in curriculum development, flipped classrooms, large on-line classes, small group facilitation, student publishing, and mentoring.
