M.S. Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Dr. Jason H. King is the Student Development Coordinator for Walden University’s School of Counseling masters and doctoral programs. Before this role he was Core Faculty in the CMHC program teaching Field Experience courses and served as the course lead for Psychopharmacology. He is a Utah Licensed and NBCC Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and a Certified Advanced Facilitator.
Dr. King was on the President’s List and Graduation with Distinction when he received his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Capella University (CACREP) and he was a Graduate with Honors when he received his master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix (CACREP). For eight years Dr. King served as the Utah Governor-appointed member of the Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensing board for the Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) – for six of these eight years, he served as Chair.
Dr. King received the 2011 ACES Outstanding Graduate Student Leadership Award and the 2012 AMHCA Mental Health Counselor of the Year Award. He was part of the Doctoral team that received second place in the 2010-2011 ACA graduate student ethics essay contest. Dr. King served as a CSI Fellow and Intern in 2005-2006 and is former president of the CSI chapters for Capella University and the University of Phoenix. Dr. King served as DSM-5 Revision Task Force committee member for AMHCA and ACA and he clinically directed an outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment clinic that collected data for the American Psychiatric Association’s Routine Clinical Practice field trials that informed the DSM-5 revision process – he is listed on page 914 of the DSM-5 as a Collaborating Investigator.
