Jamie Mikell
Dr. Jamie Gilbert Mikell is a contributing faculty member in Health Education and Promotion at Walden University with over a decade of experience in higher education, specializing in health and physical education. She holds a doctorate in Kinesiology, Coaching, and Teaching Studies from West Virginia University, as well as advanced degrees in public health and special education.
At Walden University, Dr. Mikell contributes to the academic community through teaching and mentoring doctoral students, leveraging her expertise in research, online learning, and student engagement strategies. Her research interests focus on innovative pedagogical approaches for nontraditional students and health education.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mikell has led initiatives to enhance faculty and student success, including a student research mentorship program, a mentoring program for new faculty, and professional development opportunities centered on diversity and inclusion. She is actively involved in professional organizations such as the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE), where she participates in leadership and professional development initiatives.
Her major accomplishments include implementing Active Flex learning models to support diverse student needs, serving as the university’s edTPA coordinator, leading the health education curriculum at her institution, and contributing to research publications on best practices in online education and student engagement.
