Gwen Stevenson
Dr. Gwendolyn (Gwen) Stevenson has enjoyed a 40-year career in nursing. She began her career as a staff nurse in small, rural hospital settings and then transitioned to roles in nursing education. She has 27 years of teaching experience and has served in part-time and full-time faculty positions in both community college and university settings. She was instrumental in developing and teaching courses in a newly created online RN-BSN program at Wright State University at a time when online learning in nursing was first growing in popularity. Most recently she served as the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences and Director of Nursing Programs at two different community colleges. Dr. Stevenson is a Certified Nurse Educator. At Walden University she teaches in the RN-BSN program.
The focus of Dr. Stevenson’s doctoral project was transition to practice for newly graduated registered nurses who were beginning practice in extended care settings. She has shared the outcomes of her project at several conferences and is interested in continuing to examine how best to support new nurses in transitioning to the professional role, especially those accepting positions in non-hospital settings.
