Degree ProgramM.S. Finance

Dr. Demetriades has worked in the industry for over 36 years, initially as a manager and over the past two decades as a consultant. Since 1992 he has been teaching in higher education, most of the time as a FT faculty in finance, quantitative studies and strategy. His work experience has been with companies in diverse industries in Europe, Africa, and the US and his teaching has spanned all levels of higher education, from undergraduate to doctoral, as well as all delivery modes, from face-to-face to hybrid and pure online, both in non-profit and, mostly, for-profit institutions. His research interests focus on the integration of financial risk management and strategy.
His views on teaching are similar to his views on leadership: they are both enabled by all participants, and a host of contextual factors. Teaching is not as important as learning and learning takes place when people value change, their own change. He sometimes jokes that he imposes a “learning tax” on his students, the more they get empowered through learning, the more he learns himself and the more he can empower the learning of others. That perspective drives his greatest strengths as a teacher: being there for his students, being flexible, and being open to diverse perspectives.
Dr. Demetriades holds a BS in Business Administration from Salem State University, an MBA from IMD in Switzerland, one of the top business schools in the world, and a PhD in Finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He lives in Paris, France with his wife (also a professor) and their two teenage children. Outside of work, he enjoys sailing, scuba diving and hiking.
