Dr. Doris Atanmo-Strempek is a graduate of the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Counselor Education and Supervision.
Dissertation: “NO LONGER SILENT: AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN SPEAKING UP ON DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS AND RELIGION”
Dr. Doris Atanmo-Strempek had lectured and provided academic instruction to Master's level students for 12 years in several states at various universities. She is currently a Contributing Faculty member at Walden University. Her primary areas of research is focused on the growth, development and mental health outcomes for children of multiple heritages.
Dr. Atanmo-Strempek is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in the States of Georgia and Ohio. She holds Professional Counselor licenses in New Mexico and Texas.
She has been a Military and Family Life Consultant (on demand) accomplishing effective delivery of mental health services to military personnel facilitating servicemen re-entry to civilian life.
She was a part of the initiative to establish a suicide prevention and resiliency program for the military and acted as the Director of Psychological Health for the Air National Guard 165th Airlift Wing, the 117th ACS, 165 ASOS, & 224 JCSS where she was a successful liaison with leadership on all behavioral and psychological health initiatives and policies to oversee and coordinate mental health access through the National Guard State offices for on and off-site assessments, problem solving, educational and motivational activities, referral, monitoring, crisis management, behavioral health consultation and follow up psychological health services.
Dr. Atanmo-Strempek has also had a substantial role in the development and establishment of Minority Behavior Health Group in Akron, Ohio. Here she played an integral part in the establishment of this professional mental health agency focused on the underserved population in the community allowing Minority Behavioral Health Group to achieve major milestones of licensure and independent operating status.
She is currently in private practice where she owns and operates D Michelle Counseling Services in Rincon, GA. Here, she provides mental health services to individuals, families and children recovering from traumatic events. She is a consultant, supervisor and provides psycho-education presentations to industries, agencies and organizations within and outside of the state.
