Debra Howard, PhD, LCSW, MEd, is a social work educator and clinical practitioner with expertise in geriatrics, applied developmental theory, and curricular development. Dr. Howard has taught for more than 18 years in accredited social work programs, and she is now a contributing faculty member in the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work and Human Services at Walden University. Dr. Howard has longtime expertise in geriatrics, both as an academic and a social work practitioner. Dr. Howard has specific expertise in dementia, caregiving, and practice/policy issues in end-of-life care. Dr. Howard also has specific expertise in developmental theory and the impact of childhood and adult trauma on developmental outcomes.
In addition to her academic experience, Dr. Howard has worked as an agency clinical director, and as a hospital and hospice social worker.
Over her career, Dr. Howard has taught at least 75 courses and through her workshops and presentations, has helped increase the skills of hundreds of helping professionals in improved quality of services for vulnerable clients and patients.
