Hello! My name is Danielle Hedegard. I received my PhD in Sociology, with a minor in Latin American Studies, from the University of Arizona in December 2011. I also have a BS in mathematics from Purdue University. For my dissertation, I conducted a yearlong ethnographic study in the context of international tourism in Brazil. I have published theoretically motivated and empirically rigorous research on racial identity and cultural taste patterns (Ethnic and Racial Studies, 2013), the reception of foreign culture in the United States (Sociological Inquiry, 2012), and the consumption of blackness and experiences among omnivorous consumers (Poetics, 2013). My training included broad methodological training from ethnographic and interview techniques to advanced multivariate statistics.
