Dan Furlong serves as Director for Service Delivery for the Medical University of SC (MUSC), a $3.5 billion/annually academic medical center. In this role he is responsible for overseeing the IT PMO, Innovation Station (tech store), technical business analysis, IT Service Desk, as well as the digital web services group. He is also the founder and president of PM One, the oldest training company in South Carolina dedicated to project management training.
Dan is a PMP, PMI-ACP, a HIMSS Fellow (FHIMSS), and a proud graduate of the 2008 PMI Leadership Institute Masters Program. He earned his BS in Computer Science, his MBA, and his doctorate in healthcare administration & leadership. He has over 30 years of IT experience and over 25 years overseeing projects. In 2013 Dan co-authored the textbook, Healthcare Project Management, which is used in undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate Healthcare Management programs across the country, including Yale, the first school to adopt the text. Dan and his co-author published the 2nd edition of this text in December 2017. He also authored and published PMP Last Chance Review, a PMP study aid.
Dr. Furlong also serves as adjunct faculty in MUSC’s MHA and MSHI programs, as contributing faculty in Walden’s MSPM and MBA programs, as Affiliated faculty in the College of Charleston’s Computer Science department, and as Adjunct Faculty in the College of Charleston's Professional Studies program. He also enjoys guest lecturing at other colleges, such as Yale, where he has guest lectured annually since 2013 in their Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
Dan is actively involved in his local Project Management Institute chapter where he has served on the board since 2005. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on the topic of Project Management and Healthcare Technology.
