Christie Nelson received her Bachelor of Arts from Monmouth College. She received her Master of Arts and Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology (Forensic/Corrections track) from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. Dr. Nelson completed her clinical internship at Atascadero State Hospital, a maximum-security forensic hospital. After internship, she continued to work at Atascadero as a psychologist on a Competency to Stand Trial admission unit. Her primary responsibilities included the detection of malingering, assessment of trial competency, and restoration of competency to stand trial. She started her career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at a high-security prison in Kentucky. Since that time, she has overseen an intense, residential drug treatment program for inmates in the federal prison system.
