Charmaine S. Borda, Ph.D., LMFT, LMHC, ACC, CHt. Dr. Borda was born in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to the United States when she was seven. She earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and has a Masters and a Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Borda specializes in Medical Family Therapy and has a minor in Substance Abuse Counseling. Dr. Borda is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist; she has been in private practice in South Florida since 2004. She gained credentials as an Adoptions Competent Counselor, Certified Hypnotherapist, and is an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy Approved Supervisor/Fellow. Dr. Borda’s areas of specialization include sexual abuse and trauma. She has worked closely with the Florida Department of Children and Families, HANDY, Inc., and other child welfare organizations in Broward County, Florida, advocating on behalf of abused, abandoned, neglected, and maltreated youths for over twenty years.
Inspired and motivated by the experience of being an un-adopted teen in the child welfare system, through an unsuccessful adoption, she became an Adoption Competent Certified Counselor in 2010 in hopes to assist families and children find forever homes. She is owner and Outreach Director of That Place, Inc.: The Wellness Project, a Non-profit, 501c(3) organization that focuses on helping front line practitioners/helpers connect with self-care and self-awareness in order to decrease compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout.
Dr. Borda has served her community by providing pro-bono services, and overall support, as she is inspired by Gandhi’s challenge, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” This challenge resoundingly echoes in Dr. Borda’s love for Family Therapy, Mental Health and Community Outreach Services.
