Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Dr. Carie Braun holds a Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and PhD in Nursing. She completed a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program specializing in working with children with special healthcare needs in 1997. She is certified as a nurse educator (CNE) through NLN and also achieved a certification in online teaching in 2020. Dr. Braun's PhD dissertation focused on adolescent use of alternative and complementary therapies. As a result, her areas of research have included studies on animal-assisted therapy, pacifier thermometers in children, parental grief, adolescent physical activity, teaching alternative/complementary therapies, and she has authored a pathophysiology textbook and is currently working on publishing an integrative pathophysiology/pharmacology textbook.

Over 30 years, Dr. Braun has established clinical expertise in pediatric nursing, adolescent health, and public health nursing. Dr. Braun has accompanied students on multiple occasions in public health experiences in South Africa, where she provided direct care to the diverse populations in South Africa.

Dr. Braun has 25 years of teaching nursing students at the undergraduate level. Courses taught include fundamentals, health assessment, health promotion, research, pathophysiology, pharmacology, pediatric nursing, public health nursing, and nursing capstone. She has served as a department chair and director of assessment.

Dr. Braun has also served for many years as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (regional accreditor), including serving on multiple comprehensive visits as a team chair. She has also served as a member of the Institutional Actions Council for the Higher Learning Commission.

Carie Braun is currently a contributing faculty member in the MSN-Nurse Educator program.
