ACBSP Accounting Accreditation Delivers Valuable Stamp of Quality
A Noteworthy Credential for CPAs
The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) certifies program quality at more than 1,000 institutions around the world. ACBSP accreditation is a standard of excellence recognized globally, a mark of quality for employers looking to hire. But as of 2019, programs at just 20 universities have earned ACBSP’s Specialized Accounting Accreditation.1
This specialized accreditation may help pave the path to certification. The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, along with members of stakeholder organizations and regulatory agencies, have encouraged state boards to let students from accredited schools take the certified public accountant exam with less transcript scrutiny. They do this because these universities have proven they offer rigorous and comprehensive coursework.
The value of this accreditation is raising the bar for accountancy education.
“A number of states today are requiring individuals who wish to sit for the CPA exam to have earned a degree from a university that offers an accounting program that has received ACBSP accounting accreditation,” said Dr. Roberto Castaneda, program director for Walden’s accounting and finance programs.
Walden offers a number of accounting programs, concentrations and specializations. Walden’s BS in Business Administration, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programs are accredited by the ACBSP and offer concentrations or specializations in accounting. Walden’s BS in Accounting and MS in Accounting programs have each earned ACBSP’s Specialized Accounting Accreditation. Additionally, Walden’s Graduate Certificate in Managerial Accounting can be applied toward their MS in Accounting degree program.
