Social Work With Children and Families

This concentration prepares students for work in community social service agencies, child welfare agencies, and the juvenile justice system. 

In this concentration, you’ll learn to:

  • Examine the social service needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged children, youth, and families in social work settings.
  • Integrate social work best practices when choosing appropriate interventions for children, youth, and families in social work settings.
  • Distinguish between the practices and policies applicable to publicly funded and nonprofit agency settings that serve children, youth, and families.
  • Evaluate legal and ethical issues pertaining to working with children, youth, and families in social work settings.

Choose from three degree completion options to align with your schedule, as well as four start dates throughout the year:

Standard and Accelerated Option Courses

The Standard option helps you balance your online MSW degree program with other life commitments by limiting your workload to one or two courses per term.

The Accelerated option is an ideal choice if you can dedicate yourself to full-time studies. This option requires a strong time commitment as you’ll take three courses in most terms.

Completion Requirements

  • 92 total quarter credits
  • TWO 6 week hybrid class - 2 cr (3 weeks online, 4 days on ground in face to face experience , 2 weeks online)

Note: Students in this program must have a webcam for their first course as well as for various assignments throughout the program. Please refer to our technology requirements.

Advanced Standing Option Courses

You may be eligible to reduce your program completion time through our Advanced Standing option. This option is available to students who hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)–accredited program, and graduated with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
