In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Effective oral and written communication skills are in high demand by employers. This course offers students the opportunity to focus on the skills needed for successful business performance and relationships. Students receive training in meeting management; virtual conferencing; working in virtual teams; and strategic visual representation of relationships and data for target audiences, including spreadsheets, business letters, memos, and other forms of print and electronic communication. Students also work toward gaining insight into their ability to communicate, to manage conflict, and to be culturally competent in the workplace.
This course equips students with essential strategies and tools to navigate their career development. They will explore topics such as personal branding, personal finance, networking, career readiness and planning, resume and cover letter development, and interview preparation. In addition to examining their interests, priorities, strengths, and opportunities for continued professional growth, students will consider how to leverage their knowledge, skills, and experience to set future goals and use tools and relationships they have to build a successful career path. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to present themselves confidently and effectively in today’s competitive job market. Additionally, upon successful completion of the course, they will have the opportunity to earn a workplace certificate in career readiness.
Through this course, students will focus on developing the quantitative skills needed to make sound, everyday business decisions by applying essential math concepts to realistic workplace scenarios. They will strengthen their core knowledge and skills related to common business measures, practical financial applications, and key retail metrics. To support data-informed decision making under uncertainty, students will examine foundational probability and statistics concepts, including the organization and interpretation of data using graphical displays and descriptive statistics. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have an opportunity earn a workplace certificate in business math basics.
In this course, students have an opportunity to develop or expand the essential software skills needed in many professional office environments. Course content emphasizes practical, real-world application across key productivity tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Students will explore basic and advanced functions in each of the software programs, and through their assignments, they will demonstrate and enhance their skills in business communications, presentations, and data analysis and management techniques. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to earn a workplace certificate in software skills for the office.
This course prepares students to excel as frontline managers by integrating core leadership principles with practical, real-world application. Students will explore essential responsibilities of managers including developing and overseeing teams, navigating organizational culture and change, fostering effective communication and engagement practices, coaching and mentoring, and performance management. Through real-world-focused assignments drawn from contemporary workplace challenges, students will practice making informed decisions and applying problem-solving strategies in diverse environments to drive success. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to earn a frontline manager workplace certificate.
This course equips students with practical tools and strategies to generate, refine, and apply creative ideas to real-world organizational challenges. Drawing on principles from critical thinking, personal creativity, team-based innovation, and contemporary approaches to problem solving, students will reconnect with their own creative capacity and apply techniques such as mind mapping, brainstorming, and provocation to develop innovative solutions. Students will also examine the dynamics of creative teams, explore organizational structures that support innovation, and analyze how disruptive technologies reshape industries, gaining hands-on experience with methods that translate creativity into meaningful workplace impact. Upon successful completion of this course, students have the opportunity to earn a workplace certificate in creativity and innovation.
