Uplifting Asian & Pacific Islander Voices

Walden University hosted a special Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month event, "Uplifting Asian and Pacific Islander Voices.”
Moderator Sabrina Ram and Walden graduates Dr. Makoto Ikegami, Dr. David Doan and Dr. Ulysses Labilles discussed the importance of celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander cultures, stories and voices. They also talked about the rise in racism and xenophobia toward Asian communities and how we can come together to stop Asian hate.

Sabrina Ram is Walden University’s Senior Director of External Relations. With more than 15 years of experience, she is passionate about helping businesses make an impact by telling their unique story through strategic communications, public relations and marketing.
Panelists:
Dr. Makoto Ikegami is a 2019 Walden Doctor of Social Work graduate. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Pennsylvania, Florida and Georgia. Currently, Dr. Ikegami is an ASL therapist for one of CaringWorks’ residential facilities, Hope House, which helps men who are seeking recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction.
Dr. David Doan is a 2017 Walden PhD in Health Services graduate. He is currently serving as a Management Consulting Senior Manager at Accenture North America in its Health Clinical Innovation Practice. Dr. Doan has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry's payer, provider and ACO markets.
Dr. Ulysses Labilles is a 2017 Walden PhD in Public Health graduate. He currently works as a COVID-19 Corps Tribal Nation Epidemiologist for the CDC Foundation. Through his work as an epidemiology investigator, he is working on rooting out the COVID-19 virus in the Navajo Nation. He’s also co-leading a groundbreaking initiative into coronavirus mutation sequencing.
