Baltimore—March 31, 2009
—Paula R. Singer, president and chief executive officer of Laureate Higher Education Group, has been named to The Daily Record’s 14th annual Maryland’s Top 100 Women
list. As a three-time recipient of this recognition, Ms. Singer will be inducted into the Circle of Excellence for her sustained achievements.
Maryland’s Top 100 Women list was created to recognize successful female professionals who give back to their professions and their communities by mentoring others. Ms. Singer and the other recipients from throughout the state will be honored at an awards ceremony on Monday, May 11, at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore.
“Paula has played a key role in shaping our company, and in doing so has made an indelible mark as a leader in higher education. She is relentlessly committed to inspiring people to achieve the highest standards—whether employees, colleagues, students or her mentees,” said Douglas L. Becker, chairman and chief executive officer of Laureate Education.
Ms. Singer leads Laureate Education’s U.S. campus-based and online higher education businesses, serves as chair of the Walden University Board of Directors, and oversees development and marketing of the company’s distance-learning offerings and partnerships around the world. She also leads Laureate's International Network Products and Services Group, which leverages the programs, services and local brands of the 43 institutions in the Laureate International Universities network.
Ms. Singer is active in her community, serving as an advisory board member for The Johns Hopkins University School of Education and as a member of the board of directors of Business Volunteers Unlimited. She is a past trustee of Goucher College and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School, having served on both boards for more than six years. She is also a member of Network 2000, a Baltimore women’s leadership program dedicated to mentoring and promoting women in business.
She was recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2005 and 2007 by The Daily Record, a statewide business and legal newspaper, and in 2004 she was recognized as one of five Enterprising Women in Maryland by the Baltimore Business Journal. She will be named in April as one of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Distinguished Women of 2009, and is the recipient of a 2009 Leader Award from the YWCA of the Greater Baltimore Area.
