Minneapolis—July 27, 2008—On Saturday, July 26, Rt. Hon. Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, Britain’s Minister of State for Africa, Asia and the U.N. in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and former deputy secretary general of the United Nations, delivered a compelling speech on the importance and impact of higher education in today’s global economy. His remarks were made at Walden University's summer commencement in Minneapolis, which celebrated the graduation of more than 3,500 students from 19 countries. Lord Malloch-Brown described the dramatic future growth of higher education in Africa, East Asia and Latin America, the increasing role of distance learning, and the need for additional resources to fund education.
