Minneapolis—July 16, 2008— Walden University will celebrate the graduation of more than 3,500 students from 19 countries—including the first graduates of the Walden University/Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) Bachelor of Science Dual Degree Program—in Minneapolis at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the University of Minnesota’s Northrop Auditorium. Rt. Hon. Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, Britain’s Minister of State for Africa, Asia and the U.N. in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and also a former deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, will give the commencement address. The ceremony can be viewed live via webcast at www.WaldenU.edu.

“As we proudly recognize and congratulate this most recent graduating class in Walden’s 38-year history, we also look forward to our growing impact as a global university. Every day, Walden students from more than 70 countries around the world build personal and professional relationships that last a lifetime,” said Jonathan A. Kaplan, president of Walden.

Malloch-Brown was appointed to his minister post in June 2007 and previously served as U.N. deputy secretary-general, the second-ranking position in the United Nations. Recently, he has been an outspoken advocate internationally for an end to the violence in Zimbabwe. Malloch-Brown will address graduates and guests about the importance of applying education and research to better the world.

The first 27 graduates from the dual-degree program will receive a BS in Business Administration from Walden, in addition to their Licenciatura in Business Administration from UVM. Family, friends and officials from Mexico will join the graduates at the commencement ceremony.
